The Fall Early Years Screening will take place on Tuesday, October 4 in the basement of Trinity Lutheran Church. Any child aged 3 and a half is welcome to attend. Appointments are always available by calling 7947873. Screening is free and takes at least an hour. Area schools require proof of screening before entering kindergarten. Comparable developmental screening can also be provided by a physician.

The next defensive driving course for 55 and over is offered on Monday, October 10 at 1 or 5 p.m. New participants will also come at 5 p.m. The material comes from the Minnesota Safety Council and completing the course every three years provides a 10% discount on vehicle insurance. The last opportunity for this fall will be Tuesday, November 1, 1 p.m. or 5 p.m.

Details and registration forms for the fall driver education session are now available at the high school offices. Those who will be 15 years old on December 31 will have priority for this session. A spring session will be held for those who turn 15 by June 1, 2023. The first class could take place on Monday, November 7 at 3:30:6:15 p.m. depending on playoff schedules. Registration forms will be due November 1st.

Next month’s quilting class will take place on Saturday, October 22, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The group meets in the Sleepy Eye school cafeteria and shares a potluck. All skill levels are encouraged to come as help is available for simple to complex projects. In addition to quilts, one can make a smaller item like a wall hanging or a table runner.

The ECFE Fall Festival will be held Saturday, October 29 from 3-5 p.m. in the parking lot of Sleepy Eye School. This fun event will be filled with fall-themed games, chests, or goodies by anyone who wants to join in the fun. Decorate your vehicle and yourself, open your trunk filled with treats or prizes and greet the little ones when they pass by. Older youth will participate in some of the games. Come dressed in full costume but without weapons.

An opportunity to visit the Chanhassen Dinner Theater on Wednesday, December 7 is available to see “Footloose” on the big stage. Lunch, the matinee performance and coach travel are included in the price. Reservations are required by November 7.
