Crystal Lake Gym Instructor Named McHenry County Educator of the Year – Shaw Local

A physical education teacher from Husmann Elementary School in Crystal Lake was named Educator of the Year at the inaugural Educator of the Year awards ceremony this month.

Jill Kuhns received the highest honor at the ceremony, which was hosted by the McHenry County Regional Office of Education in partnership with the McHenry County Community Foundation.

Kuhns was one of six teachers, administrators and support staff recognized as representing the best in their profession.

Six teachers, administrators and support staff were recognized at the first McHenry County Educator of the Year Awards on Saturday, May 7, 2022 at the Holiday Inn Crystal Lake. Other winners included Kelley Di Raimondo, special education teacher at Huntley School District 158’s Leggee Elementary School in the preschool category; Mariel Herzog, an English and history teacher at Evergreen Academy in Union, in the middle and high school category; Daren Dusenske, guidance counselor at Community High School 155’s Prairie Ridge High School, in support services; and Woodstock School District 200 Superintendent Michael Moan and Assistant Superintendent Justin Smith in the administration category.

The winners were selected from nomination letters submitted by individuals throughout Educational Services Area 44, which covers most of McHenry County.

In addition to Educator of the Year honors, Kuhns received a $1,000 award for her classroom from the Community Foundation, a personalized principal’s chair from the Regional Office of Education, a day pass from the Mario Tricoci Lounge and four tickets to any concert at the Des Plaines Theater or Arcada Theater. She will also be invited to speak at the Educator of the Year awards dinner next year.
