IIT Delhi to mentor girls from 11th Standard School in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics

IIT Delhi launched mentoring and training program for schoolgirls pursuing 11th grade in India

IIT Delhi has launched a science, technology, engineering, math (STEM) mentorship program for schoolgirls with the aim of encouraging girls to choose science as a career. The main objectives of the program, designed for grade 11 students, are to train young students to think creatively about science and innovation, to provide them with new hands-on experience in solving research and research problems. help them build a stronger knowledge base.

As part of this initiative, each schoolgirl will be supervised by a faculty of IIT Delhi with its researchers. During the mentoring period, they will be exposed to fundamental concepts of STEM disciplines and also learn experimental methods and techniques used in science laboratories.

Professor V Ramgopal Rao, Director of IIT Delhi said: “STEM needs to have a greater participation of women. Through the mentoring program initiated by IIT Delhi, schoolgirls will be exposed to some of the world-class labs and research being carried out here. I hope this mentorship at IIT Delhi turns out to be a turning point in their life and that they will be motivated to enter the world of science and technology and help society in their research work.

How the IIT Delhi STEM Mentorship Program for Girls Works

There will be ten 11th grade science students in the same lot, and it will be a three-level program:

  • A two-week winter project, starting in late December 2021 and ending in early January 2022.
  • An online lecture series, consisting of modules in chemistry, physics, biology, mathematics and some branches of engineering. These lectures will be given by professors from IIT Delhi between February and April 2022. During this period, students will also continuously interact with their mentors on their specific projects.
  • Summer project which will run for 3 to 4 weeks from May to June 2022, where students will gain hands-on experience in the labs and finalize their project reports with their mentors.

The students’ project areas will cover different disciplines of science and engineering such as computer science, chemistry, mechanical engineering, physics and biological sciences.

How to Apply for IIT Delhi STEM Mentorship Program for Girls

In the first class, the ten students are from different Kendriya Vidyalayas in the Delhi region. In the future, there are plans to involve students from other parts of the country and transform the program into a residential program.
