Japan opens its first esports high school

Esports is becoming a big deal these days and academia is starting to recognize its value. This is true here in North America where various colleges are starting to offer esports and video game courses while some even offer esports scholarships. Japan is also taking esports seriously, but they are trying to capture slightly younger students at the county’s very first esports high school.

It’s called Esports Koutou Gakuin, which basically translates to Esports High School. This prestigious house of learning is funded by the esports divisions of the Japanese telecommunications company NTT and Tokyo Verdy, a professional soccer team. It’s also made up of professional esports players as well as types of managers from Verdy and NTT.

Inside Esports High is an academic setting like no other. the website shows a conference room with a giant screen and desks that each support four gaming platforms.
