Lil Durk won Grammy nominations, landed on Billboard charts and rubbed shoulders with some of the game’s greatest rappers, but there’s one feat he’s still striving to accomplish. On Thursday (October 14), the “Laugh Now Cry Later” emcee took to Twitter and revealed his intention to return to school and finish high school.
“I’m going to graduate from high school,” the 28-year-old tweeted. “I want to challenge myself on my goals and real life situations.”
If Durk follows through on his announcement, he will become the latest star to return to academia after rising to fame and fortune.
Last year during the 2020 graduation season, Quavo shared a photo of himself wearing a cap and a bright blue dress. “I can finally say that I graduated from high school in 2020,” he captioned the image. “Now, which college should I go to? … BERKMAR HIGH NAWFSIDE BABY.”
Almost a year later, Coi Leray took the stage to sing his hit song “No More Parties”, gave a speech and accepted his degree from Montclair High School in Montclair, New Jersey. Quality Control’s Metro Marrs also made headlines after proudly tossing a few thousand dollars in cash at the high school graduation ceremony.
Among those with higher education are celebrities like Nick Cannon and Swizz Beatz, who enrolled in college and university courses in hopes of getting more degrees. Cannon began his college education at Howard University in 2016 as he sought “new challenges and continued growth.” He graduated with a degree in criminology / administration of justice and a minor in African studies last year, noting that he is working on a masters and doctorate degree. Swizz, on the contrary, graduated from Harvard Business School in 2017, leaving school with a certificate from the Owner / President Management Program.
