CHICO – Local Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1555 invites people to nominate teachers for the VFW Teacher of the Year award and offers middle and high school students the opportunity to enter scholarship competitions. The deadline for scholarship nominations and registrations is October 31.
The Teacher of the Year program, open to public, private and parochial school teachers, recognizes three teachers, one each at the elementary, middle and high school levels who teach civic education topics like civic responsibility, flag etiquette and patriotism and who consistently effectively promote America’s history and traditions. Monetary rewards will be given.
For junior high school students, Patriots Pen is a patriot-themed essay contest. The theme for the 2022-2023 competition is “My Commitment to Our Veterans”. Monetary rewards will be awarded from first to third place.
Voice of Democracy is an essay and oral presentation competition for high school students. This year, students are invited to prepare an oral presentation with an essay on the theme “Why is the veteran important?” Monetary rewards will be awarded from first to third place.
